Changelog

What’s new in Headlink.

Every Headlink Core release since 3.0, newest first. Headlink updates itself, so this is where to see what an update changed.

3.2.0

Current

Type a console's address, a startup crash fixed, and Windows updates that install when LV1 closes.

New

  • Type a console's address when Headlink can't find it by itself: on another subnet or VLAN, or on a network that blocks broadcasts. Setup checks which console answers there before it drives anything. Use Set address… on the console's card, or WING address… / X32 / M32 address… when no console answered at all.
  • A console is found again when its address changes while LV1 is running.
  • The Setup window can be made wider, and its pages reflow to fit.

Fixed

  • The app no longer quits as soon as it opens when its log holds a long error line. This was in every release since 1.x.
  • Linked or duplicated strips of one input all update at once after a gain or 48V change.
  • Windows: a newer Headlink now installs by itself when LV1 closes, instead of asking you to close LV1 when you already had. Coming from 3.1.2 or older, press Update in Setup once; after that it happens on its own.
  • Consoles are found while a VPN is connected, and Install anyway appears when no console answers.
  • No more "Windows blocked Headlink" right after installing while LV1 is running.
  • Closing a card's details gives the window its room back.

3.1.2

Consoles are found on more networks.

Fixed

  • A console whose subnet mask doesn't match the computer's network adapter is found now, for example an X32 set to 255.255.0.0 on a /24 control network.
  • Headlink searches out of every network adapter, so on a computer with several (SoundGrid, control network, Dante, Wi-Fi) it reaches the console on whichever one it sits. Windows and Mac.

3.1.1

LV1's card settings open again, and clearer messages in Setup.

Fixed

  • The gear in LV1's System Inventory opens the card's settings again (clock source, sample rate) while Headlink is installed. Since 3.0 it opened nothing. WING, X-WSG and DN32-WSG cards; Windows and Mac.
  • Mac: no false "not allowed on the local network". macOS 12 to 14 have no such permission, and Setup now says "Not needed".

X32 / M32

  • When the card takes strips from an AES50 port with nothing connected, Setup says so and names the strips without gain knobs. Connect the stagebox and the knobs appear by themselves.

3.1.0

Headlink for Mac, automatic updates, and the right console every time.

New

  • Mac, for the first time: a menu-bar app with Setup, install, on/off and updates, in a DMG. A permissions window walks you through Local Network access and the admin password.
  • Automatic updates on Windows and Mac. Every update is signed and checked before it is used. The console part updates while LV1 runs; the rest when LV1 closes.
  • Choose the console. With several consoles of one type on the network, Headlink no longer takes the first that answers: it drives the one you picked in Setup, else the only one with a SoundGrid card, else Setup asks.
  • First run, step by step: Install, open LV1, assign the card.
  • Support file: one click collects Headlink's own logs, settings and diagnostics, and nothing else, to send with a question.

Fixed

  • An unchanged gain is never sent to the desk again (it could shift a WING preamp chained through an X32).
  • Knobs no longer bounce while you drag them.
  • Resend LV1 values after a dropout really sends LV1's values.
  • After a console power cycle, LV1's values wait until the console answers.
  • Setup: Use this one remembers the console itself, not its place in the list; Waves module updates are noticed; a failed first switch-on recovers.

3.0.3

X32 / M32

  • Strips fed from an AES50 port with nothing connected no longer show gain knobs.

3.0.2

More X32 and M32 setups get their knobs, and WING hardening.

X32 / M32

  • A card output patched through User Out or User In finds the preamp behind each slot. Those strips had no gain or 48V before.
  • An S16 on AES50 gets its knobs, and so do an X32 Compact's local inputs (it was taken for an X32 Core).
  • The preamps are read again after a scene load, every 10 seconds, and after each change from LV1, because the X32 never confirms a change.
  • An X32 without a SoundGrid card is never the one Headlink drives.

WING

  • A preamp another desk may control over AES50 gets no knob unless the WING says it is yours.
  • A WING with no SoundGrid card in either slot is never driven.
  • Changes made on the desk are no longer missed after some reads.
  • Setup says when the WING refuses network changes (its network lock).

Setup

  • The window fits its content, is never taller than the screen, and scrolls on small screens and tablets.

3.0.1

Update from 3.0.0 now.

Safety

  • An offline device in the LV1 session (a placeholder card, or a second card of the same type) could set the real desk's gains to zero and switch its 48V off every time the session loaded. Now only the console's live card drives it: an offline device gets no knobs, and its saved values are never recalled.

3.0.0

Headlink 3: one install for every console, scene recall, and a new Setup.

New

  • One install for WING and X32/M32. Each console can be switched on, off or updated while LV1 is running. Waves' own files are never changed.
  • Scene and session recall. Preamp gain and 48V are stored with LV1 scenes and sessions and come back with them, following LV1's own rules (Recall Safe, scope).
  • Strips redraw at once when you switch a console on or off, or repatch on the desk.
  • Midas DN32-WSG card support (beta).
  • A new Setup: one card per console, with one switch.
  • Setup tells you when Windows blocks part of Headlink.
  • Install while LV1 is running; moving up from Headlink 2 is handled by Setup.
